Introduction:

In my Design and Visual Communications class, I was required to create a remake book cover of Bram Stoker's "Dracula".

The Process:

in the beginning, I made a few small thumbnails of existing covers I found captivating and fun. With these thumbnails, I branched out and created original ideas. This eventually led to my final design.

My Design:

I started off my design in procreate, where i sketched and rendered the illustration of Lucy. After this, I imported the drawing and image traced it in Illustrator to add elements such as the type and layout.

Successes:

Originally, I was unsure about what I would do after I finished the illustration of lucy but it once I figured out the font I wanted to use for the title, it went smoothly.

Challenges:

When I first started the sketch for Lucy, the file I was using only allowed 4 layers. I was worried the resolution would be poor and that I couldn't use the sketch anymore, but i realized I could make the DPI smaller, and image trace the final illustration in illustrator.

Final Reflection:

I do like my final cover, but there are many things I want to improve on. I wanted to add an ivy border around the portrait of Lucy but ended up not doing it. I plan on doing it sometime soon though! I also would have liked to finish the lace detailing on the portraits clothing but ended up giving up on it. I hope I can fix these small issues soon.
